Jeppe Brønsted
Presentation by: Jeppe Brønsted, Principal Engineer and Site Lead at Uber Denmark. Jeppe holds a PhD in Computer Science from Aarhus University and has been working at Uber for the past ten years.
Uber's scale is hard to comprehend. While Uber has not been active for riders and earners in Denmark for a long time, we have grown an engineering site from 5 to 150 engineers. More than 1 million trips are done each hour, every day. In this talk, I will present the Uber journey from startup to Fortune 500. I will cover how we have grown internal tooling into fully grown platforms at a scale that is comparable to public cloud providers.
I believe the best products are built by capable and motivated individuals. Keeping a high performance culture sustainably is a tremendous undertaking. Yet, we have succeeded in maintaining a remarkably high retention rate, allowing us to grow our team while having a huge impact on Uber’s infrastructure and engineering culture.
As I take you through my, and Uber’s journey from a platform engineering perspective, I will cover my values and principles for leading high performance teams.
My goal is that you will get insights into Uber as a technology company and get some actionable insights that you can apply in your own organizations. This presentation will be founded in concrete examples, and where necessary will introduce the relevant technical concepts at a suitable abstraction level for non-engineers.
Location: Uber Denmark Software and development is located at Carl Blochs Gade 89, 5th floor, 8000 Aarhus C. You can access the building through the Lidl reception area on the opposite corner of the Lidl Supermarket.
