After growth and acquisitions, Danish IoT company wants to scale internationally

Tech Savvy icon After growth and acquisitions, Danish IoT company wants to scale internationally

After a successful merger between Develco Products and Norwegian Datek Smart Home last year, the new group Onics is now ready to take the next step. Based in Aarhus and with solid experience in IoT solutions, the company is now setting course for increased international growth.

“We have invested in the future and gathered some of the best IoT engineers and product people in the Nordics in one organization,” says Karsten Ries, CEO of Onics, and continues

“This gives us a unique opportunity to help solution providers launch new services faster, easier and with lower risk.”

Despite a year characterized by merger and transformation, Onics Denmark A/S delivered significant growth in 2024. Gross profit increased by 32% to DKK 39 million, while EBITDA reached DKK 15 million, an increase of 12% compared to the previous year. However, the result after tax ended in minus DKK 6.7 million, which according to the company is due to investments and financing costs related to the merger.

Nordic IoT expertise united in new brand

With the establishment of Onics, ten years of Danish and Norwegian development of IoT technology is brought together under one brand. At the same time, the merger marks the beginning of a strategic offensive where Onics will strengthen its position in Europe and North America with intelligent solutions for the insurance, energy, healthcare and security sectors.

Today, Onics has more than 4 million devices installed at customer sites – including several of the Nordic region’s largest energy companies and insurance providers. The company offers a complete white-label IoT platform with sensors, gateways, apps and cloud-based services. The platform makes it possible to combine functions such as energy management, water damage protection and access control into a single solution.

“We have the technology and experience to deliver,” says Karsten Ries.

He continues:

“But most importantly: We understand our customers’ business. Our goal is to be a reliable partner that helps them succeed.”

The name Onics is meant to signal the connection between technology and people – and between software and hardware. With a new, strengthened sales setup and increased international presence, Onics expects to accelerate its growth in the coming years.

The IoT market in Europe is developing rapidly. The demand for smart solutions for home, industry and public infrastructure is growing – driven by digitalization, sustainability and energy savings.
