European superpower chooses Danish software for military management

The French Army is going digital and has chosen a Danish-developed system as the backbone of its military management. France’s 1st and 3rd Divisions have purchased the Systematic SitaWare Headquarters command and control system, which will serve as the primary tool for planning and coordination at division and brigade level.

Systematic announces this in a press release.

The purchase is part of a larger plan to roll out the system widely in the French Army and comes after an extensive evaluation where the solution was deemed best suited to meet both French and NATO operational requirements.

The decision follows NATO’s selection of SitaWare in April 2024, when the alliance for the first time chose a standard product (COTS) for its land operations. With the agreement, France now joins the growing circle of NATO countries using the Danish software.

As a key part of the NATO Allied Reaction Force, the French Army’s 3rd Division plays a key role in the alliance’s land operations. With SitaWare Headquarters, the division gains a common operational overview and a strengthened ability to make quick and precise decisions in collaboration with NATO partners.

Strategically important agreement

The system has already been deployed during two major military exercises. During the NATO winter exercise Steadfast Dagger 2025, the 3rd Division was responsible for leading the combined land forces in a multi-domain exercise with contributions from Army, Navy, Air Force and Special Forces.

At Systematic, CEO Nikolaj Bramsen sees the agreement as both a technological and strategic milestone.

“France plays a key role in the defense of Europe at a time when the security landscape is more unpredictable than ever. The increasing threats to the continent’s stability require strong, decisive allies – and here France is a crucial factor in protecting Europe’s values and sovereignty,” he says.

CEO of Systematic Nikolaj Bramsen.

According to Nikolaj Bramsen, interoperability is crucial in modern military operations.

“To operate effectively in a NATO context, France needs a proven system that provides a full operational overview in real-time and enables close coordination with allies. As a fully interoperable system, SitaWare ensures that the French Army can plan, act and react quickly and accurately, which is essential for success in a modern military operation.”

Part of a broader European defense boost

Systematic, headquartered in Aarhus, Denmark, sees the collaboration as an important step in the digitalization of European defense and in strengthening NATO’s overall combat power.

“The ability to be part of the NATO command structure is essential for any modern army. With SitaWare, France has a system that already forms the backbone of NATO’s land operations and has proven its worth with our allies on several occasions. In a world where the threat picture has changed significantly, we see it as an important task to support the alliance’s defense and strengthen their combat power,” says Nikolaj Bramsen.

SitaWare is part of Systematic’s C4ISR software suite and is currently used by around 50 countries worldwide – including many NATO and partner countries.
