Haves: 250,000 DKK. Wanted: Innovative solution for measuring food waste
Aarhus Municipality will take further steps towards a greener future with a new project to develop advanced technology to measure food waste in the public sector. The project is looking to collaborate with tech companies that can provide creative solutions to tackle one of today’s major environmental problems.
Inspired by modern technology, Aarhus Municipality is aiming for a system that integrates sensors, photo technology and weight measurements with artificial intelligence. The goal is to create a solution that not only measures, but also analyzes food waste accurately and user-friendly. The system must therefore be able to recognize different types of food and connect to a food database to provide valuable data on waste.

The project is anchored in Aarhus Municipality’s Climate Policy Food Strategy and is financed through the Green Investment Pool. The fund was established to promote sustainable initiatives in collaboration with small and medium-sized companies. Through the fund, participating companies can receive up to DKK 250,000 to develop, test and demonstrate their solution. In addition to financial support, companies will have the opportunity to work closely with the municipality and receive valuable feedback along the way.
Aarhus Municipality has not set detailed requirements for what the solution should look like, but emphasizes that the project should be innovative and user-friendly. Companies wishing to participate are invited to submit their ideas on how technology can help reduce food waste and create a greener future.
Applications are open until January 27, 2025. You can read more about the pool at Aarhus Municipality here.
