New capital to bring bio-based building materials from lab to market
The Aarhus-based startup Re-Claim is now taking an important step towards the market. Re-Claim has raised DKK 1.4 million to establish pilot production of a bio-based building material made from bark from the wood industry.
“This is a crucial step for us. We go from having a strong prototype to being able to document and deliver in practice. The pilot production makes it possible to reduce the risk for clients and consultants and translate interest into concrete projects,” says Frederik Ankjær, COO of Re-Claim on Incuba’s website.
The funding comes from Norlys and Boligfonden Kuben, each contributing DKK 200,000, and DKK 1 million from Realdania through the Innovation to Market program.
From lab to production
With the investment, Re-Claim will establish a 150 m² pilot production line in Incuba, where the company is based.
The aim is to mature production and build the necessary documentation and process control required to obtain ETA and CE certification, which is a prerequisite for scaling and selling to the construction industry.
Re-Claim works to upcycle bark, a residual product from the wood industry, into a sustainable building material with a low carbon footprint. The ambition is to establish a local value chain where residual resources can be reused directly in construction instead of going to waste.
With pilot production, the company expects to be able to deliver to the first construction projects already in fall 2026.
Reducing risk for the industry
According to Re-Claim, one of the biggest barriers in the construction industry is uncertainty around new materials.
Pilot production will therefore not only scale production, but also create the necessary documentation that clients and consultants demand.
This will make it easier to translate interest into concrete projects and accelerate the adoption of new, sustainable materials in construction.
