New top position puts Aarhus software CEO at the heart of the Danish defense industry
An Aarhus-based software profile will now play a central role in the Danish defense industry. Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic, has been elected as the new chairman of the board of DI Forsvar og Sikkerhed, a trade association for defense, space and security companies under the Confederation of Danish Industry.
This is according to the Confederation of Danish Industry in a press release.
He takes over from Jan Werner Jensen, CEO of Hydrema, who has headed the board for the past 11 years and continues as a member.
The election comes at a time when the defense and security industry is gaining momentum in both Denmark and Europe. Rising geopolitical uncertainty, rearmament among NATO countries and increased investments in defense technology are creating new opportunities for companies working with software, data, communication, cyber security and critical infrastructure.
“I am very much looking forward to continuing to contribute to a strong Danish defense industry in collaboration with the employees and members of DI FOS. The Danish defense industry has clear and strong positions of strength that Denmark, Europe and NATO can benefit from and develop even further. We hope a new government will focus on this, and I look forward to DI Defense and Security contributing to this,” says Nikolaj Bramsen, CEO of Systematic and now new chairman of the board of DI Defense and Security.
Software is becoming a bigger part of defense technology
Nikolaj Bramsen has been with Systematic for 15 years and for the past three years has been CEO of the Aarhus-based software company, which provides solutions for defence, healthcare and public organizations.
With the election of Nikolaj Bramsen, DI Defense and Security gets a board leader from a software company in an industry where digital solutions have become increasingly crucial. Modern defense is not only about hardware, equipment and production, but also about software platforms, data sharing, situational awareness and interoperability between allies.
This makes the appointment relevant to Aarhus’ tech and startup environment, where software, cyber and security are already growing areas of strength.
“I am very pleased to welcome Nikolaj Bramsen as chairman of the board. Nikolaj has already made a substantial impact on the association through his work as a board member, and through 15 years in Systematic A/S, the last three years as CEO, he has played a significant role in putting the Danish defense industry on the world map,” says Joachim Finkielman, Director of DI Defence and Security.
An industry in rapid change
DI Defense and Security represents more than 300 member companies and works to strengthen the Danish defense, space and security industry.
According to Joachim Finkielman, the industry is facing both major challenges and opportunities at a time when investments in defense are growing significantly among Denmark and its allies.
“The global security situation and the massive investments in defense, not only in Denmark but also among our allies, present both massive challenges and great opportunities that we in the industry must be ready to handle,” says Joachim Finkielman.
For Aarhus, the appointment fits into a broader development where the city is increasingly making its mark in security technology. Aarhus University has armored up on cyber security, Security Tech Space is working to strengthen Denmark’s cyber preparedness, and Systematic is one of the most prominent technology companies with roots in the city.
At the same time, developments point to a growing market for startups and scaleups that can deliver technologies for defense, emergency response, cyber and critical infrastructure. As security becomes a strategic business area in Europe, Aarhus can play a more central role as an environment for software-based security technology.
