Erhvervshus Midtjylland has been appointed as the operator of a new nationwide robotics initiative to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) test and implement robotics technology. The initiative is supported by the Danish Business Promotion Board with a total pool of DKK 50 million, which will benefit 350 companies over the next two years.

Through the initiative, companies can apply for up to DKK 125,000 in grants to borrow a robot for three months. The grant will cover the costs of a robot integrator who not only lends the robot, but also helps with implementation and employee training. The goal is for more companies to experience the potential of robots and ultimately choose to invest in the technology.

“There is huge potential for SMEs to start automating wherever possible. We lack skilled labor, and in many cases robots can help solve this problem,” says Helle Berthold Rosenberg, Director of Erhvervshus Midtjylland, in a press release.

Automation made business more competitive

Robots can not only increase productivity, but also free employees from monotonous and physically demanding work, contributing to a better working environment and increased employee satisfaction.

Jydsk Blindrammefabrik, a manufacturer of blind frames for the art and photo industry, is an example of how robotics can transform a business. After automating large parts of their production, the company has achieved significant improvements: a doubling of profits, a 31% increase in revenue, and the ability to compete with manufacturers in low-wage countries.

“We wouldn’t exist without the digitalization and automation we’ve been through. This is as far as it goes,” says CFO and co-owner Klaus Faarvang.

Earlier this year, the company won the Digital SME:Transition 2024 Digital SME of the Year award, highlighting how technology can help Danish companies achieve significant results.
