What does science say about your news? Danish startup tackles misinformation with new AI tool
Aarhus-based AI startup Proem has launched a new global AI tool to promote informed discourse by connecting news with scientific research. Called Proem News, the platform allows users to view scientific annotations on any relevant news article, providing credible, research-based insights on current topics. Launching just in time for the US presidential election, the tool offers voters and readers a way to explore factual information in an often polarized political climate.
“The US presidential election is one of the most important elections in the world. Using Proem’s platform to enrich election news with science felt essential. A debate rooted in reliable information, especially one based on scientific research, is essential to maintaining an open and fair democracy,” says Proem CEO and co-founder, Geet Khosla, in a press release.
As misinformation and superficial coverage becomes more prevalent in the run-up to elections, Proem News seeks to meet the growing demand for credible and in-depth information. With a focus on bridging the gap between news and scientific evidence, Proem offers a new solution that helps readers engage critically with content and contributes to a more informed public debate.
Science and research is just a click away
Proem News enables users to access scientific insights in an easy way. By simply pasting a news article URL into the tool, Proem’s AI quickly cross-references over 240 million research articles and provides a short, factual background citing ten relevant studies. Additionally, users can ask questions directly on the platform, which are answered with a citation to a research article, allowing readers to dive deeper and validate the information themselves.
Proem News’ source-based approach allows users to directly access original research sources.
“Offering these references allows users to verify the information and gain a depth that traditional news articles often lack. This is where the magic happens – it promotes transparency and critical thinking.” says Geet Khosla.
Focus on American politics…for now
With the launch of Proem News on the eve of the US presidential election, Proems wants to emphasize their mission to strengthen the public debate – but does not aim to influence the election outcome.

“Our goal is not to influence election results. Instead, we want to enrich the political conversation by making it easy for people to inform themselves with science-based insights,” says Geet Khosla.
Going forward, Proem plans to expand its coverage to include non-political news topics, including the economy, environmental issues and other major global events. As the tool evolves, the goal is for Proem News to become a powerful tool for anyone who wants an evidence-based approach to understanding current events.
