Young startup behind e-commerce innovation of the year with AI-based optimization engine

Aarhus-based Cernel was honored as the winner of “eCommerce Innovation of the Year” when PostNord and the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) recently presented the eCom Talent Award 2025. With their innovative use of artificial intelligence to optimize product data, organic traffic and international growth, Cernel has distinguished itself as an innovator in the future of online commerce.
Cernel’s solution stands out by using a network of AI agents that autonomously identify and rectify opportunities to optimize product information. The result is significant time savings for customers, increased click-through rates and faster expansion across markets. The innovation addresses a key challenge for many e-commerce businesses: creating accurate, engaging product data without having to spend huge resources on manual updates.
In November 2024, Cernel received a million-dollar investment to accelerate the development of the young team behind it.
“With the capital injection, we can now accelerate our scaling to reach larger customers – also internationally,” said co-founder and CEO Andreas Busch.
Creating a smarter future
With the award, the organizers highlight Cernel’s work as a crucial lever for how data and technology can be used to accelerate growth and increase competitiveness in a global e-commerce world.
“Cernel is an excellent proof of how AI can transform the e-commerce landscape and create a smarter and more efficient future. Founded in 2023, the company also shows that with a good idea and technological know-how, AI has a democratizing power – everyone has a chance. You don’t have to be the biggest company with the most capital, you just need to understand how technology can create solutions to problems that create meaning and value for customers,” says jury chairperson for the innovation category, Anders Bæk, in a press release.
In addition to Cernel, Brian Andersen from Matas was named “eCommerce Leader of the Year” for his role in transforming Matas into a digital growth machine, while Cecilie Lundberg from POWER received the award as “eCommerce Frontrunner of the Year” for her successful work with loyalty programs.
